Mabio Costa is a Lower Extremity Single below Knee Amputee Category (Left leg).

Mabio is a former member of the Brazilian Triathlon Team and since 2001 a member of the USA Triathlon Team and two times Triathlon World Champion (1996 and 2004).

As Former Member of the International Triathlon Union Physically Challenged Commission (1990-1999), Mabio did Focuses on the development, Rules and Safety of the sport among Physically Challenged Athletes around the World, making Triathlon the only sport – anywhere – in which disabled athletes race side-by-side with able-bodied athletes at local, national and international levels.

Mabio believes that the most important thing in life is the wish to be a role model. The feeling he experiences when he motivates people, making their lives better, is greater than the joy he has while standing on top of the podium. He is a motivational speaker at schools and hospitals.
